No More Smalling Up of Me

No More Smalling Up Of Me

Jean Wilson

No more meekly saying 'yes'
When my heart is screaming 'no'
No more taming of my feelings
So my power won't show
No more hiding my exuberance
From disapproving eyes
No more watering down myself
So my spirit won't rise

No more 'smalling up' of me
Pretending I am not here
No more running from the music
And the spotlight's glare
No more living in this prison
Barricaded by my fears
No more turning and retreating
In the face of new frontiers

Even as I am speaking
I am taking shape and form
Harnessing my powers
Like a gathering storm
There's no obstacle so bold
As to dare stand in my way
I am taking back my life
And I am doing it today.

Review: I like this poem because it expresses that a person should be themself and not worry about what others think. God has made you to have a voice and opinion, don't be afraid to show it. There is only one that can judge you.

Smile

If The Road Not Taken It Couldn't be Done A Smile If You Think You are Beaten
In Whom Men Condemn If I Knew You Ode to Googlebot More Poems

A smile costs nothing, but gives much-
It takes but a moment, but the memory of it usually lasts forever.
None are so rich that can get along without it-
And none are so poor but that can be made rich by it.

It enriches those who receive, without making poor those who give-
It creates sunshine in the home,
Fosters good will in business,
And is the best antidote for trouble-
And yet it cannot be begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is of no value
Unless it is given away.

Some people are too busy to give you a smile-
Give them one of yours-
For the good Lord knows that no one needs a smile so badly
As he or she who has no more smiles left to give.

Review: I like this poem because it is saying that even when you have nothing in life, you always got your smile. The ending is very true about someone who doesn't smile needs it more than anyone. Smiles are a beautiful, uplifting gesture that can be contagious. Try it sometime to someone who got that down look plastered upon their face. See if they smile back.

Things Work Out
By Edgar A. Guest
Because it rains when we wish it wouldn't,
Because men do what they often shouldn't,
Because crops fail, and plans go wrong
Some of us grumble all day long.
But somehow, in spite of the care and doubt,
It seems at last that things work out.
Because we lose where we hoped to gain,
Because we suffer a little pain,
Because we must work when we'd like to play
Some of us whimper along life's way.
But somehow, as day always follows the night,
Most of our troubles work out all right.
Because we cannot forever smile,
Because we must trudge in the dust awhile,
Because we think that the way is long
Some of us whimper that life's all wrong.
But somehow we live and our sky grows bright,
And everything seems to work out all right.
So bend to your trouble and meet your care,
For the clouds must break, and the sky grow fair.
Let the rain come down, as it must and will,
But keep on working and hoping still.
For in spite of the grumblers who stand about,
Somehow, it seems, all things work out.

This author to this poem is trying to say that life needs to have hardships to enjoy it better. I believe that is true too. If we didn't know what bad situations were, we wouldn't appreciate what we have.

Men

When I was young, I used to
Watch behind the curtains
As men walked up and down the street. Wino men, old men.
Young men sharp as mustard.
See them. Men are always
Going somewhere.
They knew I was there. Fifteen
Years old and starving for them.
Under my window, they would pauses,
Their shoulders high like the
Breasts of a young girl,
Jacket tails slapping over
Those behinds,
Men.

One day they hold you in the
Palms of their hands, gentle, as if you
Were the last raw egg in the world. Then
They tighten up. Just a little. The
First squeeze is nice. A quick hug.
Soft into your defenselessness. A little
More. The hurt begins. Wrench out a
Smile that slides around the fear. When the
Air disappears,
Your mind pops, exploding fiercely, briefly,
Like the head of a kitchen match. Shattered.
It is your juice
That runs down their legs. Staining their shoes.
When the earth rights itself again,
And taste tries to return to the tongue,
Your body has slammed shut. Forever.
No keys exist.

Then the window draws full upon
Your mind. There, just beyond
The sway of curtains, men walk.
Knowing something.
Going someplace.
But this time, I will simply
Stand and watch.

Maybe.

: I like this poem because it relates to how we are in a rush to grow up as teenagers. As young adolescencent women, we seemed to be in a hurry to get a boyfriend. Then once we have them, it isnt at lovely as we would like it to be. I've learned to take your time, because He Has Thy Man For Thee!

24 Interludes of Life

This is dedicated to my wonderful friends who enrich my life with the treasure of their being. May your soul decisions always be made with your heart, and not with your head.
1. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile.
2. There are moments in life when you really miss someone that you want to pick them up from your dreams and hug them. Hope you dream of that someone.
3. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want in life.
4. May you have...Enough happiness to make you sweet
Enough trials to make you strong
Enough sorrow to keep you human
Enough hope to make you happy
And enough money to keep you comfortable.
5. When one door of happiness closes, another opens. But we often took so long at the closed door, that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.
6. The best kind of friend is the one you could sit on a porch, swing with, never saying a word and then walk away feeling like that was the best conversation you've had.
7. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.
8. Always put yourself in other's shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably does hurt the person too.
9. A careless word may kindle a strife;
A cruel word may wreck a life
A timely word may level stress
A lovely word may heal and bless.
10. The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves and not to twist them with our own image, otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.
11. The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along the way.
12. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we should know how to be grateful for that gift.
13. It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to like someone and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.
14. Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched and those who have tried. For only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.
15. Love is when you take away the feeling, the passion, the romance and find out you still care for that person.
16. A sad thing about life is that when you meet someone who means a lot to you only to find out in the end that it was never bound to be and you just have to let go.
17. Love starts with a smile, develops with a kiss and ends with a tear.
18. Love comes to those who still hope even though they've been disappointed, to those who still believe even though they've been betrayed, need to love those who still love, even though they've been hurt before.
19. It hurts to love someone, and not to be loved in return but what is most painful is to love someone and never finds the courage to let the person know how you feel.
20. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
21. Never say goodbye when you still want to try;
Never give up when you still feel you can take it;
Never say you don't love that person anymore when you can't let go.
22. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back. Don't expect love in return, just wait for it to grow in their hearts but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.
23. There are things you love to hear but you would never hear it from the person whom you would like to hear it from, but don't be deaf to hear it from the person who says it with his heart.
24. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life to the fullest so that when you die, you're smiling and everyone
around you is crying.

This poem is so right in so many ways. I'm kinda speechless because it is a lot to take in on how everyday experiences are like this. As I read this, it made me think about journeys that I have been through that relate very closely.

4 Ways to Inspire Creativity When You're in a Slump

4 Ways to Inspire Creativity When You’re in a Slump

Creative people who actually work in the creative field are some of the luckiest people in the world. Not everyone gets paid for doing something they love. There are some days when we work on a project and feel a sense of satisfaction close to what Hemingway or Picasso must have felt. It’s pride. It’s no wonder that artistic types often confess that they would still write, draw, design, etc. even if there weren’t a paycheck on the other end.
But then there’s the other side. Some days you go to work (whether in an office or at your laptop at home) and can’t believe you have a deadline. The fact that you must perform when you don’t have a single ounce of creative juice in your body at the moment feels wrong. How can you create art when it feels so much like work?
Don’t despair. Creativity isn’t something that just leaves you. Sometimes it just lies dormant and needs to be poked with a sharp stick to wake it back up. Think of these tips as sharp sticks, and pull them out whenever you feel a dreaded slump coming on.
  • Get Out. No wonder your creativity is stifled if you’re sitting in front of a computer all day. Get outside of your regular environment (the coffee shop doesn’t count –it’s filled with writing zombies who need to get out too). Go to an art gallery. Visit an old friend. Take a walk around the block. Inspiration is right around the corner.
  • Look at Some Bad Examples. Taking a look at the worst in the field can be one of the best creative boosts there is. Read some amateur fiction, check out some outsider art, or browse a website of failed ad campaigns. You won’t be able to help thinking that you could do it better, and once you realize how, you’re back in the game.
  • Pick a Word. One of the simplest tools I’ve found for stimulating a napping brain is this random word generator. Let it pick a random word (rope, flying, rush), then force yourself to work with it, no matter how strange. You don’t have to actually use the word in your final creation, but you’ll find that the process of trying will lead you to a new idea.
  • Recycle a Favorite. Chances are, one of the ideas you’ve already used is worth a revisit. I’m not advocating reusing the same work in its entirety, but the idea behind it. Take a look at some of your successes. What made each one work? An unexpected hook? A spoof of a classic? See if that same technique works for your current project.
If none of these seem to be working, then the best trick is to simply start. Just getting something on paper, even if it’s terrible, gives you something to mold, edit, or otherwise build into something remarkable. Then, once again, you’ll be bursting with the pride that makes you want to create in the first place.
by Elizabeth Kelly

I believe these are some good techniques to try when experiencing writers' block. I totally agree with "getting out." I find myself going to the lake a lot to clear my mind of everyday clutter and sometimes just sitting back and taking in my surroundings with all of my senses.

Audrey Hepburn Quote

"Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one at the end of your arm....As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others."

Information about Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn

Born in 1929, Audrey almost pursued a career in ballet instead of acting. During World War II, it was said that she danced to raise money for the underground movement. While filming Secret People in 1952, director William Wyler spotted her and believed she'd be perfect for the part of the English princess opposite Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday. It was her breakout performance, for which she won an Oscar. She went on to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Her beauty, elegance, charm and humor captivated audiences as well as the actors playing opposite her, leading Cary Grant to once say, "All I want for Christmas is another picture with Audrey Hepburn".

Audrey is so right on with this! I believe that nobody can help anybody if they can't help themselves first.

As You Travel Through Life

As You Travel Through Life….
Poet Unknown (Thanks to Kim for submitting)

As you travel through life there are always those times
When decisions just have to be made,
When the choices are hard, and solutions seem scarce,
And the rain seems to soak your parade.

There are some situations where all you can do
Is simply let go and move on,
Gather your courage and choose a direction
That carries you toward a new dawn.
So pack up your troubles and take a step forward -
The process of change can be tough,
But think about all the excitement ahead
There might be adventures you never imagined
Just waiting around the next bend,
And wishes and dreams just about to come true
In ways you can't yet comprehend!
Perhaps you'll find friendships that spring from new things
As you challenge your status quo,
And learn there are so many options in life,
Perhaps you'll go places you never expected
And see things that you've never seen,
Or travel to fabulous, faraway worlds
And wonderful spots in between!
Perhaps you'll find warmth and affection and caring
And somebody special who's there
To help you stay cantered and listen with interest
To stories and feelings you share.
Perhaps you'll find comfort in knowing your friends
Are supportive of all that you do,
And believe that whatever decisions you make,
They'll be the right choices for you.
So keep putting one foot in front of the other,
And taking your life day by day...
There's a brighter tomorrow that's just down the road -
Don't look back! You're not going that way!

I really enjoyed this poem because it makes somebody look towards the future and never in the past. People should always learn from their past to make them a better person today, but someone should never dwell on it. Move on in life and strive for the better.  - Ann Urquhart

Washington Irving Quote

"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of nonspeakable love."

                                         Washington Irving

This quote is so true. I do believe that tears say a lot about a person's character and how deep and passionate they are about anything from feelings to morals in life. Tears are real and true! ( atleast most of the time )

If I had my child to raise over again

If I Had my Child To Raise Over Again
by Diane Loomans
If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I'd finger paint more, and point the finger less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars,
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I'd see the oak tree in the acorn more often,
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd model less about the love of power,
And more about the power of love

I like this poem because I believe a lot of parents are straying away from what is really important. Take time to love your kids because it can all be over in a sec. Make lasting memories that count!

Someday

Someday you'll cry for me like I cried for you!
Someday you'll miss me like I missed you!
Someday you'll need me like I needed you!
Someday you'll love me, but I won't love you!

This poem pretty much sums up what it says. To understand it, you must have been through a heart breaking relationship.

Watch Your Thoughts

Inspirational Poetry
Watch Your…

By Frank Outlaw

Watch your thoughts,
for they become words.
Watch your words,
for they become actions.
Watch your actions,
for they become habits.
Watch your habits,
for they become character.
Watch your character,
for it becomes your destiny.

It's just a compilation of quotes that already existed.
Posted by: Luci |
November 08, 2008 at 11:24 PM

SHANNON BLAIR POGUE compiled quotations that already existed long before 1989.
For example:
Thoughts become words
Words become actions
Actions become habits
Habits become character
Character becomes your destiny
Google any one of those lines and you'll find they all predate 1989.
All Shannon Pogue did was rearrange existing quotes by adding "Watch your" to read:
Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny."
Shannon Pogue cannot take credit for "originating" anyone of the lines in her poem.
It simply a compiltation of other people's quotes with "Watch your" added.

It doesnt matter if he SHANNON POGUE compiled a group of words HE still wrote it i know this cause i am shannon pogue i have over 8000 poems i have written for the pas 20 years. yes i took seperate phrases and added them to combine a poem it was for a shhool poetry contest the poem is not that great the fact i sent it in to a state contest and it went missing is sad. i still have the original draft and part two to this poem. FACT IS FRANK TOOK CREDIT SO BE IT I LAUGH GOD WILL JUDGE HIM FOR THIS. I FIND IT FUNNY MY LITTLE SISTER FOUND THIS SITE SO THE RECORD WAS JUST PUT STRAIGHT. THE DEPTHS OF MY MIND GO FAR DEEPER THAN THIS SMALL POEM.

My comment: I love this poem because it is very uplifting and at same time has a lesson embedded in it. The poem is very real and in the lives of everyday people this is so realistic in the way people act.

You Are Not an Accident

You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God's special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb,
You're just what he wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones he chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God's plan in mind,
And they bear the Master's seal.

No that trauma you faced was not easy.
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into his likeness you'd grow.

You are who you are for a reason,
You've been formed by the Master's rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!

Only You

Only You
© By Anonymous

A person can make you feel high,
A person can make you feel low.
But only you can decide,
Which way you want to go.
A person can hurt you mentally,
A person can hurt you physically.
But only you can place,
A limit on your abilities.
A person can cause drama,
A person can cause a situation.
But only you can create,
Your own reputation.
A person can make you laugh,
A person can make you cry.
But only you can make,
Decisions for your life.
I guess what I'm trying to say,
That when you're living day to day.
Don't live by what people do,
But live by what you know is true.

Comments:
I really like this poem because it makes me think of some life experiences that I have gone through. This poem inspires a person to look past any negativity handed out through life and make a positive out of it. I have taken my personal experiences in life that have hurt me with enormous pain and have used them to drive me to do better than whatever thing is bringing you down. I have started school and love going to the gym. This has given me a positive release of built up emotions that could have been expelled in a manner that could make matters worse.
